On 19 December 2024, a meeting was held with Mr. Arthur Da Silva from TotalEnergies. The
meeting included top executives from the electricity sector, representatives from the Energy
Authority Suriname (EAS) and Energy Companies Suriname (EBS), as well as the chairman of
the Suriname Energy Chamber (SEC). Also in attendance were representatives from VIS
(Vereniging van Installateurs), Betagroup, Elgawa, Amps, Kersten, HSW, and ITS.
This introductory visit also marked the beginning of the "Start Small, Grow Big" project, which
aims to encourage Surinamese companies to actively participate in the economic developments
surrounding the exploitation of Block 58, also known as the Granmorgoe Project.
Mr. Arthur Da Silva provided a brief overview of operations, and businesses had the opportunity
to engage in discussions. Following this meeting, it was decided to arrange another session with
all key suppliers of TotalEnergies, who are also expected to utilize local resources whenever
possible.
TotalEnergies indicated that approximately 500,000 metric tons of materials will be transported
through Suriname’s river port before being shipped overseas. The company expressed
satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by Surinamese companies.
Businesses interested in participating are encouraged to register on Staatsolie’s general
portal at: https://www.staatsolie.com/en/local-content/.
The Suriname Energy Chamber remains committed to supporting its members as well as
contributing to Suriname’s overall development.
